The week ahead: Peace At Last

Our focus story for the next fortnight is 'Peace at Last' by Jill Murphy. Some of our focus activities this week include:

Language, Literacy and Communication
Sequence the story and re-tell using a story map inspired by 'Pie Corbett'.

We will also be starting to learn how to form pre-cursive letters during our handwriting sessions. I will be sending home a list of the letters to show you how we are teaching the formation and for you to practise together with your child at home.

Mathematical Development
Compare, order and sequence numbers up to 20/100

Read and write numbers up to 20/100. We will paying particular attention to forming the numbers correctly and ensuring they face the correct way. Please can you help your child to practise this at home?

Our new 'learn it' this week is: 3+7=10

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We're going on a light hunt! We're going to find some bright ones! We will be looking at all the different light sources we can find around our school environment and sorting the different sources during our enhanced activities.

Creative Development
We will be exploring a range of musical instruments and choosing which instruments and sounds would be best to accompany the story.

Reading books/bags
I have had to change my reading timetable, so new reading books will now be sent home every Friday along with the focus high frequency words for your child to practise. Please can you ensure book bags are sent in to school by Thursday to allow us time to change the books. Please can you also ensure a comment is made in the reading record every week and any concerns you may have?

Home Learning Tasks
Please can you ensure learning logs are sent into school every Monday, ready for the next home-learning task. The week's focus is numeracy:

Draw and sequence your daily routine and write the times that you do each activity.

Birthday cakes and healthy snacks
We have a new policy regarding birthday cakes in school. Please see the main blog for further information and also some guidance regarding healthy snacks for play times.

Thank you for your continued support, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to come and see me.
