Autumn

Image result for autumnWe had a lovely Harvest celebration, all the children did themselves proud and our scarecrows and birds were fantastic!

Half term is nearly upon us, where has the time gone! I am so pleased to see the children have all been working really hard in Y Graig, learning new skills everyday and learning to become more independent learners.
As we head into our last week, our focus for the week will be all about 'Autumn'. We will be reading 'Tattybogle' and talking about the changes in the seasons, particularly the features of Autumn.

We will be going for a Autumn walk down in our forestry area to look for signs of Autumn and complete our Autumn leaf challenge. If you haven't already done so, please can you ensure your child has a pair of wellies and a suitable coat in school for our forest schools activities.

Language, Literacy and Communication

We will be using the Autumn leaves we collect as a stimulus for our writing this week, collecting 'wow' words to describe them and then using these words to write in our sentences.

Mathematical Development

The children have begun to develop a sound understanding of number bonds to 10, don't forget to keep practising to recall them mentally, using our song to help them.

We will be making 'Seasons' booklets this week and drawing/writing features of Autumn for the Autumn page. These will be continued through the year as we move through each season, to develop the children's understanding of seasonal changes.

We will also be continuing  our work on place value, using numicon to practise identifying 'tens' and 'units' in a number, counting up to 20 objects and writing numbers to 20.

Other areas

We will be using our Autumn leaves for our creative activities this week, making hedgehog and squirrel collages, leaf rubbings and paintings.

Christmas cards - The children will also be designing their Christmas cards for you to see, further information will be posted about this early next week.

We will also be playing some games to practise and re-enforce the Welsh language patterns and vocabulary we have been learning:

Pa liw wyt ti'n hoffi, Dw i'n hoffi....../Dw i ddim yn hoffi

What colour do you like? I like...../I don't like

Rhifau 0-20               Numbers to 0-20

Home-Learning Tasks

I have been really impressed with the work produced in the home-learning tasks, the thought, time and effort that has been put into the tasks is incredible and the children are really proud of their work. I will post some pictures on here later this week.

A few dates to remember
Parents Evening - Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th October.

Please ensure your school photograph forms are returned to school by Wednesday 19th October.

I look forward to meeting you all this week during parent's evening.

Diolch yn fawr
