Week 3 17-09-18

Language, Literacy and Communication
Our focus story for the next fortnight is 'Peace at Last' by Jill Murphy. We will be exploring the sounds in the story through our literacy and music sessions and using a story map to help us re-tell the story.

We have also started Read, Write, Inc and all the children have settled well and are working hard in their new groups.

We have started guided reading sessions too. Please can you ensure your child has their book bag in school everyday.

I will be sending home high frequency words on Friday once I have completed the last of the assessments this week. I will include a list of all the words they will need to learn over the year. We focus on a few of these each week, which I will write inside their reading diary. Please practise these regularly as well as recapping words they already know, to ensure they don't forget them.

Mathematical Development
We have begun our CLIC sessions each morning before our maths focus tasks. During CLIC, we practise a range of number skills and each week, they will complete a CLIC challenge. We will also be learning a new 'learn-it' every week. This is a number fact which we would like them to be able to mentally recall at speed. Our learn-its this term will be focussing on number bonds to 10. This week, we will be learning:

8+2=10   and the 'switcher'    2+8=10

We will be continuing to practise to read, write and count objects to 20 and beyond.

We will also be learning about the days of the week and exploring our daily routines.

Techniquest
We will be visiting Techniquest this Thursday 20th September. Please can children have a packed lunch and a coat for the trip. If you haven't already, please can you send in the permission slip and payment ASAP?

I still need 2 helpers for the trip, so if you are available to help, please could you let me know in the morning?
