Wow! What a beautiful weekend it has been! The colours and the shapes in the sky and on the ground were amazing! Jack Frost has certainly been busy painting the world around us with his ice brushes. I hope you have enjoyed the sunshine as much as I have. It has been wonderful to get out and about in the fresh air.. We don't see many days like this in January, how lucky are we?!

In Literacy this week, we will be continuing our work on speech bubbles. Last week looked at what is needed in a speech bubble and how it differs to direct speech. The features we highlighted were:
- Capital letter to start the sentence.
- Full stop to end the sentence.
- NO speech marks needed!
- NO need to use 'said'.
- The bubble come above or beside the person speaking - no need to say the persons name who is speaking.
This week we will be planning and rewriting a piece of the story from our class novel which contains speech bubbles. We've been reading 'The Pirates Next Door' and we are thoroughly enjoying it! Ask your child what their favourite part of the story was and why.

Continuing on from last week's maths lessons, we will be delving further into the wonderful world of direction and position. Last week we looked at the vocabulary linked to this topic of maths and came up with a selection of important words which we started using and will need to use this week. We discussed the words we knew and gathered them for our vocabulary wall in class. The words we used last week are:
- Space
- Forwards
- Backwards
- Turn
- Right
- Left
- Full turn
- Half turn
- Quarter turn
This week will be using our knowledge of algorithms from last week and writing our own commands for a Beebot Pirate, directing them around a treasure map to find the X that marks the spot. We will also be working in pairs to collect treasure direct our partners around a grid, collecting treasure as we move. Which pair of pirates will collect the most gold coins?
Gwyddoniaeth
Building on our knowledge from last week's lesson, we will be conitnuing our work on waterproof materials this week and invetigating them further. Take a look at the video we posted last week to recap and strengthen your understanding ready for our new enquiry.
Here's to another fun packed week Y Graig. You worked very hard last week and the work you are producing is excellent. We are very proud of the effort you put in to focus tasks and Shine Time activities. Just remember that you need to use indoor voices and not fuss on the carpet. Don't forget to help each other during tidy up time and our Helping Hands need to focus on their own areas to ensure our classroom stays neat and tidy.
