Hello everyone! We hope you had a wonderful Easter and had the opportunity to spend time together in the sunshine. Was the Easter Bunny kind to you? I hope so!
I know we are not back at school yet, but we wanted to welcome you back to a new term. We will continue to work remotely and send you work every Monday until school is reopened. We are continuing to use the Hwb class page for discussions and uploading photos. However, we would like to see you all using your Pupil Files in J2E to store your work because we can comment on and mark it there.
J2Stars will be awarded for any work and photos uploaded, as well as Kindness Stars to those who comment on others' work. We will be giving out certificates to those who collect the most stars weekly. Well done to those who received theirs last week. If you haven't already, check your email inbox!
As you know, each term we have a new topic and just because we are not at school doesn't mean this is going to be any different! Our new topic is going to be.....
CALON LAN
This is translated to Full of Heart. As part of this topic, we would like to focus on Healthy Body, Healthy Mind.
We would like you to think about what you would like to do around this topic. Mrs Rees is going to start a discussion on the class Hwb page and we would like you to comment your ideas as a reply. From your ideas, we will give put together activities linked to Maths, English, Science, Creative Arts and PSE. Get your thinking caps ready!
Before we start the new topic, we have a few things to finish off from our Pirates topic. This week's work will mostly be linked to our STEM project.
Task 1 - Boat Building
As you know, we were supposed to make our pirate boats over the last two weeks of the autumn term but we were at home! Therefore, the first task for you to complete this week is to make your pirate ship.Take a photo of you building it and then the end product. Upload these to discussions and then we will all 1 star and a wish each other's boats.
Task 2 - Coin Investigation
Once your boat is complete, can you test it? Ask your mum and dad for some coins. If you have plastic coins or tokens, you can use them too. Count how many coins your boat holds before it sinks (if it sinks at all!)
Before you start, predict how many coins you think your boat will hold and say why using the connective 'because'. Draw a picture of your test in your learning log and write a small paragraph underneath explaining what happened.
Mrs Rees will start a discussion in the Hwb class page asking you how many coins your boat held. Please reply with your answer. You will need this information for your maths activity this week.
Task 3 - Block Graph
Whose ship held the most coins? You are going to create a block graph in JIT5 on Hwb with the amount of coins your boat and your friends' boats held. Use the information from the discussion on our class page to help create your graph. Choose 11 people's results and add to your result. Create the graph choosing your own colours, labels and title.
Task 4 - Letter Writing
Can you write a letter to your favourite character in the book you reviewed last week and tell them why you like them so much? What questions would you like to ask them? Tell them something about yourself too. You could even put your letter into an envelope before sticking it in your book. Don't forget your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Try to spell your HFW correctly too.
We would like you to use Just2Easy software to complete this. Can you use J2Write please? You will need to click on the icon high, lighted below in the Just2Easy section on Hwb.
You then need to select JIT Write icon which is highlighted below.
You can then choose to either write on a blank page or choose a background that could be linked with the book your character is in. Once you have completed your letter, you need to save your work by clicking on the icon highlighted below.
This will then save your work in your file on Hwb where we can go in and look at and comment. We look forward to reading the interesting information you tell your character and the questions you would like them to answer.
Task 5 - Practical Activities
Task 6 - Daily Get Active Session
If you wish to continue with P.E With Joe Wicks or Cosmic Kids then please do so. You choose which ever Get Active activity you prefer. However, this week's chosen activity is GoNoodle (as recommended by Emilia) which is a website that combines both movement and mindfulness. There are a range of free videos in the Family section. Choose your favoruite each day and get moving. We would love to hear which ones you choose and whether you like them or not. Start a discussion for your friends to see.

Task 8 - Reading
We would like you to continue using Oxford Reading Buddy for your weekly reading.
Don't forget, we are here to support you. If you need any help just send us an email or start a discussion on the class Hwb page and we will get in touch. Don't feel pressured to complete everything. All we ask is that you try your best and do as much as you can. We understand learning from home is different to school, just remember all the skills you've been taught in class and do your best to use them at home.
Most importantly...
If you can, we would love you to keep your photos coming as they really do make us smile. We are missing all your lovely faces and looking at your photos helps!
Take care everyone!
Mrs Rees and Mrs Farrell :O)
