Summer Term - Wythnos 2

This week sees the start of our new topic ‘Calon Lan’. Thank you for all your great ideas posted on our Hwb class, we will try our best to squeeze in as many as we can over the term.

This week, we are starting with favourite foods.

Task 1 – Food Diary
We would like you to keep a food diary. There is a template on Hwb (Hwb class, files, Summer term wythnos 1) or you can create your own. This is not a test of how healthy your diet is! This is for you to think about the types of food you like to eat. At the end of the week discuss your diary, for example:
Do you like to eat the same breakfast everyday?
Do you eat the same snacks, or try different things?
What was your favourite meal?

Task 2 – Favourite Food
Think about your favourite food. It could be one specific food like an apple or your favourite meal like Spaghetti Bolognese. Can you think of ‘wow’ words (adjectives, describing words) to describe your favourite food? Create a list of ‘wow’ words using bullet points, or make a mind map (picture of the food in the middle with words scattered around the outside). How many ‘wow’ words can you think of? You will need these for another task.

Task 3 -  Favourite Food Survey
Survey your family to find out their favourite foods and why they like them. If you can, ask your wider family, you could give them a selection of food to choose from and you could create a graph on J2E showing your results. Is your favourite food the most popular amongst your family too?

Task 4 – Poster
Now that you have listed ‘wow’ words to describe your favourite food and you have heard your family describe their favourite food, we would like you to create a poster to advertise your favourite food.
We found out what features posters have when we learnt about them in school. Think about these when completing your poster – clear writing, big heading, pictures, bullet points, colourful, easy to read etc.
Can you use your ‘wow’ words (from task 2) to convince your family and friends that your favourite food is great?! We are looking forward to seeing your finished posters.

Task 5 – Maths
This week we will be learning about ordinal numbers. Ordinal numbers help us to explain order, for example who came first, second or third in a race.

We would like you to make labels showing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc then order things around your house  by laying them out in order of your favourite and add the matching labels. For example, you could order and label:
• Toys
• Food
• DVD’s
• Games
• Cars
• Dolls
• Whatever you can think of, get inventive!
• You could order the results of your favourite food graph too.

In practical situations, Year 1 children use ordinal numbers to 20. Reception children to 10.

Task 6 – Practical/Wellbeing Activity
We realise during these unusual times, we need to look after our wellbeing as well as continuing with our usual learning tasks. Each week we will be suggesting a practical/wellbeing task where you can have fun together as a family. This week, as our tasks are based around food, we thought you could have a family picnic in the garden (or an inside picnic if the weather is not kind to us). Can you with the ideas for your picnic? Can you help prepare the food? End your picnic with a story or a game.

Task 7 – Daily Get Active Sessions
If you wish to continue with P.E With Joe Wicks, Cosmic Kids or GoNoodle then please do so.  You choose which ever Get Active activity you prefer.  However, this week's chosen activity is Jump Start Jonny.  There are three free videos on the main page and some more options if you click ‘free stuff. We would love to hear which ones you choose.

Task 9 - Reading
We would like you to continue using Oxford Reading Buddy for your weekly reading. We can see that lots of you are engaging with the website. Try to choose books from here to read weekly. We can see how well you are progressing through the teacher part of the website. If anyone is having any trouble or can’t remember usernames or passwords then please email Mrs Farrell through your Hwb email.

Task 10 – Welsh
This week we will be recapping ‘feelings’. Keep an eye out for a ‘Sut wyt ti?’ discussion on Hwb and reply how you are feeling in Welsh.
You all know ‘Bore Da Ffrindiau’. Sing along with the video.

Now read the book ‘Tedi Tw ar y Fferm’. How are all the animals feeling?

Don't forget, we are here to support you.  If you need any help just send us an email or start a discussion on the class Hwb page and we will get in touch.  Don't feel pressured to complete everything. All we ask is that you try your best and do as much as you can.  We understand learning from home is different to school, just remember all the skills you've been taught in class and do your best to use them at home.

If you can, we would love you to keep your photos coming as they really do make us smile.  We are missing all your lovely faces and looking at your photos helps!

We hugely appreciate all the Mums and Dads who are spending time uploading all the work, you have really made our class page a lively place and it is so nice to see the children interacting with each other and sharing such positive comments about each other’s work. From this week we will mainly be commenting and awarding stars for the work and photos uploaded the J2E files. We are able to comment on individual photos of work there and you can answer any of our questions about your work by responding to the speech bubble. If you would like to add a comment about the photo you have uploaded, click on the green ‘i’ and choose ‘learning conversation’. The files in our Hwb class can be seen by everyone and are more for you to share photos with your friends. We will still comment on the discussions you post and kindness stars will still be awarded to those who take the time to comment on other’s discussions and posts. We will also award stars in discussions for activities you have completed that may not have been in the work we have set you.

Have a great week. Take care everyone!
