We hope you have enjoyed the weekend and have had lots of fun. We hope that you received your sunflower seeds through the post and that you will join with our class family and all plant them. Just think how many lovely sunflowers we will have between us!
This week we are continuing to work on celebrating 'The World Around Us'. We will be touching on plants again and looking at how we can look after our world. This week we have chosen a Charlie and Lola book to read, please find it on a separate blog post.
Task 1 – Instructions for planting and looking after a sunflower
George and Erin suggested growing plants, so plant your sunflower and then complete this task to help other gardeners...
Before half term you wrote some brilliant instructions through your recipe writing. Now we would like you to use your ‘bossy verbs’ to write instructions for planting a seed and then how to look after it. Watch this video about writing instructions:
Watch the following video to help you with what to write:
What do plants need to grow? BBC Bitesize link:
Remember, try to include these features in your instructions.
• Title
• A list of what you will need
• Use bullet points or numbers to put your steps in order
• Use words that show order e.g. Firstly, then, next
• Use your bossy verbs
Task 2 – The Lifecycle of a Flower
Watch the life cycle of a seed here:
Have a go at using 2Animate to use pictures to show the lifecycle of a flower using the instructions on a separate blog post. It makes a short animation of your work. There are quite a few steps to follow, so if it proves too tricky, maybe you could draw and colour the lifecycle of a flower instead?
Task 3 – Craft
Our book this week looked at recycling. Can you take something that would have otherwise been recycled and make some flowers out of it? Please see the pictures below to help inspire you!
Task 4 – A Promise
Draw a picture of the Earth like Lola does on the cover of our book of the week 'Look after our Planet', some ideas are below:
or you could follow the YouTube tutorial below:
Think about a promise you would like to make to the Earth. It could be that you will look after your garden, plant more flowers and trees, recycle, not use single use plastic bottles etc. It can be whatever you think will make the world a better place.
Write your promise underneath the picture of your world. Start with ‘I promise to…’
Task 5 – Maths
This week we are going to rehearse some of the skills we have covered so far through online games. This is something that you will be able to work on independently once you have decided the levels you want to practise.
You could try playing all the games in the number bonds section (apart from decimals). Choose the right level for you.
Halves – choose halves to 10, halves from 10-20 or up to 100 (use ‘it’s nothing new’ for up to 100, if you know half of 8 is 4 then half of 80 is 40)
Doubles – double to 10, 10-20. You could try ‘up to 100’ using ‘it’s nothing new’ – if you know double 7 is 14, then you know double 70 is 140.
Using the same numbers can you make two adding sums and two take away sums. Remember, we do this during CLIC in school. Choose + and - up to 10 or up to 20.
Here is one I did as an example.
Have a go at the different levels below, choose the ones most suitable and practise those.
Up to 10 – one more
Up to 20 – one more

Task 6 – Wellbeing, Using Our Senses
Amelie suggested going for a woodland walk. Inspired by that idea, please try the activity explained in Mrs Rees' video below. Mrs Rees is going to have a go at this activity herself some time this week so keep an eye out for her video on here.
Task 7 – Daily Get Active Sessions
This week Mrs Farrell has been thinking about the silly songs that we would sing in school and the ones that would make us laugh. One that came to mind was ‘Hi, My Name is Joe’. We thought you could teach it to someone in your house or to someone over FaceTime and have a giggle together. We have added a video as an example, it’s not exactly like we sing it, but it might help you remember. How many buttons will you manage to push?!
Task 8 – Daily Phonics Sessions
RWI
Ruth Miskin is continuing to offer free phonics lessons via YouTube and from the 1st of June, there is a range of new daily films available. all films will be available from 9.30am and can be accessed for 24 hours.
Set 1, 2 and 3 Speed Sounds lessons will restart.
Set 2 and 3 Speed Sounds lessons will include new words for reading and spelling.
Some of the new films will include a focus on reading 'red words' which cover high frequency words and there will also be new story and poetry sessions with Nick and Elly.

Task 9 - Reading
We would like you to continue using Oxford Reading Buddy for your weekly reading. We can see that lots of you are engaging with the website. Try to choose books from here to read weekly. We can see how well you are progressing through the teacher part of the website. If anyone is having any trouble or can’t remember usernames or passwords then please email Mrs Farrell through your Hwb email.
Task 10 – Welsh
As we have been reading about recycling this week, we have chosen the book ‘Dim Sbwriel’. As a follow up activity, give some clean recycling to your child and ask them to sort to their own criteria. They might sort by material type e.g. plastic, paper, card, tin. They might decide to sort by size or colour. However they have done it, ask them to explain how they have sorted and make labels for each group. Photograph their sorting.
There are no downloads in Hwb this week, but if you require anything then please email us.
Don't forget, we are here to support you. If you need any help just send us an email or start a discussion on the class Hwb page and we will get in touch. Don't feel pressured to complete everything. All we ask is that you try your best and do as much as you can. We understand learning from home is different to school, just remember all the skills you've been taught in class and do your best to use them at home.
If you can, we would love you to keep your photos coming as they really do make us smile. We are missing all your lovely faces and looking at your photos helps!
We hope you have a lovely week,
Mrs Farrell and Mrs Rees :0)
