Happy Half Term

It was lovely to chat with you all this week and I have told the children all about the wonderful things I have shared with you and how proud I am of them. Despite all the changes and restrictions during these uncertain times, they come into school every day with a smile, their little personalities shine through and they have kept us all happy and smiling : )

Oxford Reading Buddy

Your child has brought home their login details for Oxford Reading Buddy. Please keep these details safe. This supports the reading scheme that we use in school.  There's a great range books to choose from and after they have read the book, there is a quiz they can complete where they answer questions to show their understanding of the story/book.

Oxford Reading Buddy website:

https://www.oxfordreadingbuddy.com/uk

Your child will begin by accessing the discussion books, where they use the pictures to tell the story. Encourage them to talk about the characters, discuss what is happening in the pictures and ask questions about them, then make predictions about what they think will happen next. When your child is ready, they will have a paper book and some high frequency words sent home, as explained in the sound pack. Over half term, choose one or two of the books to have a look at.

Year 1 pupils can continue to use their existing login details for Oxford Reading Buddy. If you need another copy of these, please let me know? Please continue to work on reading and spelling your high frequency words every day. Little and often, practise makes perfect! Those who are ready for the next set of words will have been given them today in their reading bags.

Christmas cards

This year, the children have designed their own Christmas cards using the paint programme in jit. The PTA have arranged for these to be printed professionally as we did last year and they will be available for you to buy if you wish. Please see the main blog page for further information regarding ordering etc.

I have uploaded your child's design into their personal file on HWB for you to have a look.

Fine motor skills and letter formation

A few parents have asked for some tips to help further develop fine motor skills and practise pencil grip and control so I have shared some activities and sheets in our class file. This is not a homework task that needs to be completed or uploaded, just some ideas to help you with practising these skills at home.

Happy Half-Term!!

We've had a very busy half term, filled with lots of learning, laughter and fun. We'd like to thank you again for all of your support and I hope you have a lovely well-deserved break. I can't wait to see you all back after half term ready for the build up to my most favourite time of the year...Christmas!
