This week.

Now that we have finished our base line assessments we can really start to get to grips with our topic work. 

This week we are working on. 
LANGUAGE 
Sounding out for emergent writing.
Onset and rhyme 'ot' CVC words. Cot, hot, rot, lot, dot, pot, spot etc. 
Writing on the lines. Writing from left to right. 
Writing a sentence with an 'ot' word. For example, The pot is hot.
Using a capital letter, finger spaces and full stop. Sounding out all the words independently. 
Writing weekend news. 

Guided Reading. 
Tracking, high frequency words, sounds, listening to others read as part of a reading group. Discuss characteristics of a book, spine, title, author, illustrator, illustrations, blurb, back cover, front cover, publishers emblem, bar code, page, page number, etc etc. 

MATHEMATICS. Introducing Big Maths. 
Saying numbers.
counting up and back to 20. 
Saying 'teen' after the number 12 as in thirteen, fourteen, fifteen etc. 
Saying numbers...from 60-69 ( rehearse the skill of giving any 10's number and then they follow it by counting on). Say the numbers from 1-9 then say 60...they say 61, 62, 63, etc.
Reading numbers, reading 1 digit numbers- say what you see. Read the numbers 11-20.
Learn its...Doubles 1+1=2, up to 5+5=10. Counting in multiples of 10. 
It's nothing new...meet PIM the Alien I can swap objects, inverse operations in addition. 
Calculation...I can read a number sentence. Eg 3+4=7 differentiated work depending on ability. Understanding mathematical vocabulary and linking it to symbols. Add + equals =

writing the numbers up to 20 with the correct orientation -enhanced task. 

PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EDUCATION. 
working independently on enhanced task, only doing the task/ activity that is allocated. Recording what they have done where appropriate in their enhanced books independently.

Thinking about people who help us.
What questions would we ask a firefighter?
Link to our pending school trip, what are questions? Why do we need them? Discuss the question mark. 
Write their question in their topic book using emergent writing. Use a capital letter, finger spaces and a question mark.
Draw a firefighter to accompany their written work.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING 
Looking at London, past and present. To develop an awareness of the past in the context of comparing present day London to the London that existed before 1666. Be able to say how London has changed.

WELSH 
Recap language patterns covered so far, Beth sy yn y bocs? Cylch, sgwar, petryal, seren, triongle. Sawl un? Pa liw triongle, Sut wyt ti? Ofnadwy, bendigedig, wedi blino, dw i'n trist etc. 

Introduce counting. Rhifau 0-20 counting objects, touch and count. 

P.E. 
Alphabet of shapes, play to learn  movement- crawling. 

CREATIVE
Colour mixing, red and yellow to make orange. 
Paint one hand red, one hand yellow, print each hand then rub together to make orange. Print an orange hand. Cut around own handprints and use as flames for The Great Fire of London display. 

FOREST SCHOOLS 
Looking for sign of Autumn. Collect artefacts for an autumn display. 

Home learning to be completed and handed in by Wednesday please (Flames and adjectives) 
Please ensure that the children are reading either their books, sounds, or flash cards every day for 5-10 minutes. 
HOME WORK BAGS AND READING DIARIES NEED TO BE IN SCHOOL EVERY DAY FOR GUIDED READING ACTIVITIES PLEASE.

Our school trip will hopefully be on October the 7th 2015. We are planning on visiting the Fire Station in Pontyclun and then going to the Traditional Fire Engine Museum in Swansea afterwards. All details will be confirmed once finalised and permission slips will be sent home too.
