Welcome to Y Graig.

Welcome to Y Graig.
We hope you have had an enjoyable Summer holidays and have made the best of the very poor Welsh Summer weather. We have a busy Autumn Term ahead of us and will be working very hard from the first week. This first half term will focus on settling in to a new class, learning our class rules and getting used to the routines.
In Y Graig we work in small focused groups, on half class activities with a teacher as well as learning to work independently on enhanced tasks. The children are expected to independently achieve differentiated challenges and record their learning. You'll be amazed at what they will achieve this year.
If you need to discuss anything with us regarding your child then please come and see us or ring our school secretary and make an appointment.
We look forward to meeting you all.

The children had a great first day in y Graig class and all settled well. They learnt the class rules, wrote about what they did during the school holidays and wrote numbers in maths. Mrs Bull took them to see our class allotment and to see how lasts years class had filled it with beautiful sunflowers. They picked a few to have a good look at and then we all guessed whether some children we taller or smaller than the sunflowers.

SNACK.
IN Y GRAIG THE CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING IN THEIR OWN HEALTHY SNACK FOR BOTH BREAKS. ALSO PLEASE CAN YOU ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A BOTTLE OF WATER TO DRINK THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
WE DO NOT PROVIDE SNACKS BUT HAVE A WATER FOUNTAIN AVAILABLE IN SCHOOL.

Our class rules.

P.E. KITS
Please send in labelled p.e. kits (a white t shirt and navy short with trainers/ plimsoles) in a small draw string bag ( also labelled). We can hold onto Kits for half a term and store them in school to avoid anyone forgetting them for our p.e. lessons.

HOW YOU CAN HELP US HELP YOUR CHILD.
Read with your child for 5 minutes everyday.
Assist them with their home learning tasks and return it on time.
Ensure that your child brings their reading book and reading diary into school everyday. This is essential for Guided Reading Activities.
Ensure that you child brings their labelled P.E. kit into school every week.
Ensure that your child brings in Wellington boots (to remain in school) and a waterproof coat every day for Forest School activities.

OUR AUTUMN TERM THEME is called...
Remember Remember.
The theme is a History (Knowledge and Understanding) based topic and we'll be learning and looking at aspects of The Great Fire Of London, Bon Fire Night and Guy Fawkes, The Festival of Light - Diwali.

I will post a little more on the skills and we that we will be covering in the next few weeks.

Thanks
Mrs James and Mrs Bull.
