Croeso Nol
A very
warm welcome to Class 3 / Y Graig. I hope you've all had a great Summer holiday
and are feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead.
I am
returning to Penygawsi following my maternity leave and am really looking
forward to getting to know and working together with your children(and you!)
this year. Mrs.Evans will be supporting myself and the children this year in Y
Graig, which is a great advantage as she already knows the children really well
and together we aim to help and support your child to be the best that they can
be!
The blog
will be my main form of keeping you up to date about our class, providing you
with information about what we are and have been learning and how you can help
to support your child's learning at home.
Every
Sunday, I will update the class blog with information about what we will be
learning, our story of the week, planned focus and enhanced tasks and also our
home learning tasks.
Our theme
for this term is 'Remember, Remember'. All of our skills and activities will be
taught and developed under the umbrella of this theme. Some of the things we
will be learning about include: The Great Fire of London, The Gunpowder Plot
and changes in materials.
Some of
this weeks tasks include:
Language,
Literacy and Communication
'All
about me'
Writing
about our holiday
Mathematical
Development
Reciting
numbers up to 20 and beyond
Compare,
order, read and write numbers to at least 20.
I will be
spending the week getting to know the children, working together with them to
decide upon class rules and their own personal targets and goals.
The
children will be taking ownership of their new classroom, by helping to decide
what we will need to aid our learning in each area and make and write signs and
labels for them.
As part
of the Foundation Phase, lots of our activities will be taken outdoors and in
the fantastic forestry area. Please can you ensure your child has a suitable
coat and a pair of wellies for them to keep in school for the year.
Pupils
will not need PE kit this week. Please can you send in a PE kit (plain white
top, navy/black shorts or leggings) in to school by Monday 11th September? Our
PE focus this term is gymnastics and dance so no footwear is needed.
Please
can you ensure that all clothing/wellies are clearly labelled with your child's
name to avoid any confusion or misplaced items.
As from Tuesday, our school day will change. The start and end of the day will remain the same, however, lunch will now be at a later time of 12.45pm. As a result of this, break time in the morning will be a little longer to ensure there is enough time for your child to have a chance to eat a substantial healthy snack.
In Year 1, we encourage the children to become more independent and will now take responsibility for their own snack. It is important that they have a snack every morning, as it will be a long time between breakfast and lunch. As a healthy school, pupils will need a healthy snack, this maybe fruit, crackers, cereal bars, cheese, raw vegetables etc.
I will
send out more information by the end of the week regarding home-learning tasks,
reading books and PE days etc.
Myself or
Mrs.Evans will be on the door to welcome the children every morning. If you
have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to come and see me.
Alternatively, if you need to make an appointment, please do so with the
secretary in the office.
I look
forward to meeting you all. See you all bright and early on Tuesday!
