It's been lovely to meet everybody this week and the children have all settled really well into their new class. We have spent the week getting to know everybody, and discussing and deciding upon our 'golden rules' that we felt were important to have in 'Y Graig'.  The children felt these were the most important:

Be kind

Listen carefully
Always try our best
Be polite
Walk in the classroom

The children have enjoyed exploring their new classroom and helping to make signs, labels and pictures for our areas of learning. We have started to explore 'The Great Fire of London' and the children have responded with a lovely enthusiasm and have thought of some very interesting questions.
We have looked at the events and sequenced a simple timeline together as a group and used our 'checking glasses' to check they were in the right order. We have also been practising to recognise, read and write numbers to 20/100.

School Visit to Llancaich Fawr
We will be visiting Llancaiach Fawr on Wednesday along with Year 2. Please can you ensure the permission slip and payment is returned to school by tomorrow (Monday 11th Septmber)? We will be having a tour of the Manor house, exploring the exhibition and trying on some of the clothes from the era. Fingers crossed it will be dry, as we are hoping to take the children in the gardens to play some traditional games. The children will need a packed lunch and coat for the trip.

Some of next weeks activities include:

Literacy across the curriculum

Sequence the events from the Great Fire of London independently and re-tell the story.
Write about our visit to Llancaiach Fawr.

Maths

We will be starting our CLIC maths, which is a mental warm-up that we complete daily before our maths activities. This includes, Counting, a Learn-It (number fact) and 'It's nothing new' where we learn to link mathematical ideas.
We will be continuing to read, write and order numbers to 20/100  and count 20 objects and also learning about our daily/weekly routines and ordering the days of the week.

Creative

Look at Stuart houses and buildings, then use a range of media to re-create one.

PE
PE will be on a Monday. If you havn't already done so, please could you send in a PE kit in a small bag (white top, black/navy shorts or jogging bottoms) to keep in school for the half term. Please can you ensure that everything is labelled with your child's name?

Bags

I mentioned in the newsletter on Friday, that due to limited space in our cloakroom, we don't have the room for any big bags. Please could we ask that only a small packed lunch box is sent in. Please can you send in a pair of wellies to keep in school, which will be stored in our welly boxes. Bottles will be kept in the class, again, please can you ensure they are clearly labelled along with any other personal belongings to minimise any confusion and risk of loss.

Reading

Reading books will be sent home on Friday along with high frequency word flash cards. These words are very important as many of the words cannot be built and blended and need to be learned by sight, through regular practise. Please aim to read with your child on a regular basis. A little and often, practise makes perfect! The children will take part in daily guided reading sessions so it is vital that book bags are in school every day.
