Through The Keyhole

What a busy few weeks we have had in Y Graig. The children have been busy using our class book 'The Three Little Pigs' to help them with their learning. The children have enjoyed thinking about the character of the wolf and imagining how they would feel if they were the little pigs.
From the book we have carried out tasks through all areas of the curriculum, not just literacy. Take a look at our photos below to see how busy we have been.
In history we have become history detectives and travelled through time, looking at houses through the ages. We have discussed what they look like and the things they have in common. From our discussions we have sorted a wide range of homes using our own criteria. Some groups chose wood and windows, others brick and windows and another windows and chimneys. We used a Venn Diagram to sort the houses. Excellent example of collaborative learning.

In science we have used the characters within the book to help us make predictions and test them. We have been focusing on work on forces, especially gravity, pushing and pulling. We had to become the Big Bad Wolf and investigate which material (brick, stick or straw) would be the lightest and travel the furthest when blown by the wolf. We then wanted to find out which car would be the best one for the Three Little Pigs to escape in. This car needed to be fast and travel further than all the others when rolled down a hill. Take a look to see what we got up to.
This week we will become history detectives once again and will be finding out more about those homes through the ages to create information posters. We will also be putting our architect hats on and will be building some of them using a range of items in our junk modelling sessions. It's going to be a fun week!
