This week we will be starting our new genre of labelling. We will be looking at good examples of labelling to find out the features of this genre. Then we will be labelling parts of the body and pirates. When labelling you need neat straight lines leading from the picture to the word. Maybe you could practise using a ruler to draw straight lines this weekend?
Mathemateg
In maths this week we will be measuring length using non standard measures; measuring natural materials outside and pirate objects inside. You can use anything to measure, but there are certain rules you have to follow. Watch this video below:
Gwyddoniaeth
Last week we were busy investigating the best shaped bases by finding out how many coins they would hold before sinking and the best size for a sail by blowing them across water. We had great fun and found out lots for when we design our own.
This week we will be using everything we have found out to draw designs for our own pirate ship.
Cymraeg
This week we will be reading the Fflic and Fflac book ‘Dim Sbwriel’ and practising the language patterns ‘Oes … gyda ti?’ (Do you have a …?) ‘Oes, mae….gyda fi’ (Yes, I have a …) and ‘Nag oes, does dim….gyda fi.’ (No, I don’t have a …). We will then be using a wordbank to help us make a recycling poster.
Home Learning
Slightly different this week. Over the week the children will be designing their pirate ship based on what they have found out. We would like you to help your child gather what they need to make the design the following week. As they complete the design sheets we will be sending copies home, but as some children will not complete theirs until Thursday, so you may want to talk to them about what they intend to do first.
The boats will be junk model boats using recycled materials, but they must be able to float. Help you child collect a base (eg a take away container? a Flora container?) a mast (a straw? A coffee stirrer?) material for a sail (this could be paper and of course we can provide this at school) and any decorations they would like to add.
Please bring what you have gathered into school on the morning of Monday 16th March. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE PIRATE SHIP AT HOME, THIS WILL BE DONE IN SCHOOL.
Please don’t worry if you can’t get everything they need, we have resources in school, but if everyone can bring a base in, then that would be a great help. Diolch.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
